Draemir's monarch was making a sincere attempt at wearing a hole in the floor by pacing the throne room. A considerable amount of stress was visible on his face with the way his brow was furrowed and his shoulders were tense. Laith had returned from Veirntarn and the time spent there had given him back the composure he needed to face the situations at hand. His coronation which normally would have been a joyous event was organized and carried out swiftly. Following that the funeral for Dierdre had been completed and he was beginning to be very concerned.
Obstacles and strange occurrences kept getting in the way and delaying the proceedings of her death rites and this left him with a feeling of unease. His mothers death had been ritualistic and violent and he wondered if she would be able to pass on peacefully. She had been beloved by all throughout her reign and had worked hard to bring people together that normally never would be. His mother had made such an impact on his life and that of his siblings and she deserved a peaceful rest.
Normally Inuruz would have come to guide her soul to it's resting place but this had yet to happen and Laith was unsure of why. As part of his duties as a new monarch he had sent missives to the emissaries of Lirika to come and meet with him. Laith wanted to convey his hopes to continue his mothers work and discuss the most pressing matter at hand, Niara.
Thinking about his sister sent his emotions into a tailspin but he couldn't ignore that there was a danger needing to be addressed. He had exiled her because her actions had been so outside of her normal demeanor and at the same time he couldn't bear to execute her, which he hoped would not be a decision he would come to regret. Those who were his eyes and ears outside of Draemir had been sending reports that the amount of people entering the Shadowlands had grown as had magical energy surrounding the area and not in a good way.
The thought of what Niara could be up to did not make him feel any better. Everything had changed drastically overnight for the kingdom and for his family and it was a complex tight rope trying to be a king who needed to take action, and a normal person who was grieving, angry, and confused. He didn't have the luxury of sorting through all this like most would. All he could do now was put the best plans he could in place in case of danger and wait.

In the halls of Draemir castle a loud stomping of boots could be heard running throughout the hallways. The culprit was none other than the crown prince who was currently carrying a large amount of weapons to the throne room. While his siblings mourned over the loss of their mother he had taken it upon himself to protect his entire nation from the newly uncovered evil that was his older sister. His steward begrudgingly tagging along pulling a small cart filled with explosives, the two jogged down the hallways carrying the small arsenal, causing a few maids to faint from the sight of it.
"Davyn, I know you want to help and all, but are you sure that we should bother your brother now?!" She gasped out as she continued to pull her payload along.
"Of course I am! As soon as he see these new weapons he'll be overjoyed!" Davyn said, voice slightly muffled by the multitude of firearms.
The steward rolled her eyes,"Fine, but don't come whining to me when this literally blows up in your face..." They soon reached the doors to the room, Calis dropping the ropes she was dragging the cart with and sat down next to a wall, gasping for air.
Davyn however still full of excitement pushed open one of the doors and rushed in, still carrying the bundle of death,"BROTHER LOOK WHAT I MADE!!!!"

Laith was startled out of his thoughts by the sound of his brother's excited voice. He turned and waited a second for his heart to feel like it had returned to beating in the correct vicinity of his chest. He took stock of the situation and winced inwardly at the amount of weaponry his brother was carrying like it was a sack of flour. Weaponry that from what Calis had told him previously could explode. His head was beginning to hurt but he couldn't fault him for trying to help. "Good morning brother mine. I see you've brought gifts. There isn't any chance that those could be set off while you're holding them is there? If there is can I convince you to set them down carefully? I rather like you in one piece. After that you can tell me all about what you've brought."

Davyn laughed at this," No these don't explode....(maybe)...but what they can do nearly replace bows entirely!" He carefully sets them down at his brother's request,"These little beauties can pick off a target almost 300 feet away!" He picked up one of the now revealed to be scoped rifles and loaded it with a bullet from his side pouch,"now then, which vase do you not care about brother?"

Laith made sure to take a good look at everything. "I don't know about replacing archery completely there are some who might not be comfortable using these new weapons. I think they will be useful though." He looked deeply concerned at Davyn's question and what could possibly happen to the throne room. "I'm wondering if it might be better to have a demonstration outside less chance of something going awry or getting destroyed. What do you think?" He looked over at Calis for input too.

Calis just shrugged and says,"Got any prisoners that need executing?" She says with an eager grin on her face, Davyn meanwhile looked as if he was about to vomit.
"Calis I don't *urp* think thats a good idea," the thought of using his fellow man as a test subject sickening him to the core.
Calis sighed and picked up the rifle," just kidding Davyn. though personally though your majesty, I suggest you have a special squad apart from the archer units that use these. Hell I might use one myself, your brother maybe a ditz but he can make some high quality weapons." She exclaimed while feeling up the firearm.

Laith shared his brothers sentiment at the mention of demonstrating the use of a weapon on a live prisoner. "There are none that require execution at this time. I am certain however that a target could be set up to be used to test out this weapon. I will definitely bring up the idea of having a squad with access to these weapons at the next council meeting a day or two from now." He pondered for a moment. "Do you have anything a little less lethal perhaps in case a distraction is needed?"
All of a sudden there was a loud crashing noise outside of the castle and Laith raced to the window to see what had happened. A sigh of relief went through him as he saw his little sister standing not far from the castle a bit singed but otherwise unharmed. Vrisadana was standing with her staring wide-eyed at something so burned it was unrecognizable. He winced visibly this time.
Vrisa noticed the King glancing alarmed out the window and sighed before yelling. "All is well, she was practicing her pyromancy and got a bit too excited! All property, animals, and residents are unharmed. Well... almost. This training dummy has seen better days."
"Thank you Vrisa! Daeva come inside alright? You can tell me about your training." All he kept thinking was that his siblings were sure to turn his hair white.

Davyn pondered for a moment at his brother's suggestion," Well, I do have this." He says as he pulls a small ball out of his pocket, which he threw above his brother. The ball then sprouted a propeller and hovered above the king, a moment later a small hole appeared at the bottom of the ball and a fine mist was sprayed down at Laith. After about ten seconds of this the ball then retracted it's propeller and became the ball that it was before." I call it the Medical potion Evaporation Diffusion kit, or the M.E.D Kit for short. I give it a 50% success chance! The other 50% is that it explodes, fortunately I made a few of them" He explained as he put the ball back in his pocket.
Calis meanwhile had leaned her head out the window and was yelling at Daevarya," Good Job pint-sized, but I expect that dummy to be in tip top shape tomorrow for your physical training!" She then walked back over to Davyn and sat down on the floor.

Teryis knocked on the doorframe he was already standing inside and entered the room. He took in the scene before him and shook his head in amusement before exchanging a knowing glance with Calis. "Duties keeping you... occupied I see?"
The guard walked over to stand beside his king and studied the pile of scraps cobbled together. The whole lot ought to be melted down to send to the blacksmith's forge in his opinion. "Respectfully my prince, I would be worried you wouldn't find a soldier in the entire militia who wouldn't quake in their boots at holding one of these exploding contraptions. And that's not even including the issue of the fae."
Turning back to the king, he said in a lower voice "My lord, your special guest has arrived."

Laith could have hugged Teryis when he walked through the door. Distractions kept him from pulling his hair out over what could be blown up or set on fire. Suddenly it occurred to him that Teryis brought up a very good point the fae would not have a good time with these at all. Not to mention Laith was still unsure about them himself.
"For now Davyn keep these in a safe place preferably away from anything flammable or that could ignite and we'll figure out how we're using them later. Just remember things like this do not always function well, that is another reason to be careful." This M.E.D. kit of his though seemed considerably less dangerous. "Can I hold on to this for now?"
When Teryis spoke about the guest his eyebrows raised, that was quick indeed! "Oh?"

Calis heard the guard coming in and responded while chuckling," you can say that again Teryis..."
Davyn on the other hand seemed slightly disappointed at the guard's opinion," W-Well they are only in their trial runs, and I don't have to much to work with exactly.(the only successful one I've made is my own...and that is with some rare parts that are hard for even Taliyah to come by...)" He said while quickly mumbling to himself after the comment." Of course brother, just let me give you a fresh one." Davyn walked over to his brother and handed him a similar looking ball while taking the other one," They need to be refueled after every use, but they can save lives."
Calis had got up and gone over to Teryis and spoke softly," this guy someone I need to worry about, or do you and the other guards think you can handle this?"

Teryis quickly grabbed the used medical device and handed it back to Davyn, while motioning away the one he was offering. "Let's not have the king bring anything possibly explosive into the meeting with the emissaries from the other city-states, hm? Even if it is only a slim chance of it exploding. And don't lose heart my prince. Your growing skill with this tech means you have been able to use it..." he raises an eyebrow at Calis "more safely than most. I only express concern that our allied fae would not take kindly to a contraption exploding anywhere near them, what with their inherent metal weakness and all. I'm sure you will be able to refine your techniques with time."
Turning back to Laith he realized the need for clarification. Special guest could have implied one of the new emissaries, or even the king's selkie romantic interest. "Er, that is... the very special one.... the one we're not supposed to talk about...." He sighed and gave up "Taliyah has arrived as you requested milord." He still wasn't sure what to make of the wanderer, or why the king thought he could trust her. But her unique expertise would be invaluable with the recent threats to the kingdom.

Calis nodded at Teryis' explanation," True, Davyn's inventions are...booming. I wouldn't put the idea away just yet, hes made a successful rifle and hammer, its just...he doesn't have much in the way of directions, so he starts everything from scratch."
Meanwhile Davyn at the mention of the word Taliyah ran up to the guard and started rambling,"ISSHEBRINGINGMATERIALSIFSOYAYBECAUSEIREALLYNEEDPARTSTOFINISHTHESEPLEASE!" Bouncing up and down while doing so.
Calis sighed at the display and turned back to the the poor guard,"that is one word you really don't say when Davyn is around, he stays like this until she gets here..."

Laith thought Teryis had handled reassuring Davyn rather well and he was glad to hear Taliyah had arrived as well. "We will meet in the usual place." The throne room was a high traffic area and not many knew how Taliyah traveled, best to meet where they wouldn't be overheard. "Teryis I agree, it would be a very bad first impression if during this first meeting someone was blown to bits. I'd rather avoid that if possible."
When Davyn heard Taliyah's name he tried not to groan out loud, and instead ran a hand through his hair, and silently counted to ten. He walked over so he was standing behind his brother and put a hand on each shoulder trying to settle the prince's bouncing. "I will ask her about it Davyn and have her bring you what she's brought, if anything. Will that suffice?"

Davyn still bouncing replied,"OKAYIMGOINGTOGOTINKERWITHMYMEDKIT!!!" He then grabbed his guns and sprinted down the hall towards his workshop.
Calis watching this sighed once again and then perked up as she remembered something,"Oh yeah, there is some stuff Davyn made that actually works, just let me get it." She walks out of the throne room for a few minutes only to bring in the cart with numerous explosives in it,"Yeah, these are actually supposed to explode, unlike his other tech." Calis said chuckling,"but in all seriousness what do we do with this stuff."

Teryis muttered "Scrap heap?" jokingly to Calis as he walked by. "I'll see if armsmaster Trystan has a storehouse that he... wouldn't mind if we lost. But unfortunately this explosive stuff may prove more handy than we'd like with the...." He hesitated, staring at Laith "Immenent threat."
He turned to walk out of the room. "I'll just hop down and tell the guest to head over to meet with you milord. We still have an hour's watch til we should leave to meet the representatives. Shall I requisition a full platoon for your escort?"

Laith didn't miss the imminent threat comment. "It's alright to say her name, it's not any less than the truth as much as I hate to admit it. I agree that some of these devices could be helpful, the more research we can do to determine how well they will function the better." He was willing to use his brother's tech as long as they could ensure the safety of those operating them. The destructive power still worried him a bit though.
"Thank you Teryis." He considered his friends question for a moment and shook his head. "I don't think a full platoon will be necessary." He knew it would be unwise given current events to not go with protection but he didn't want to make the emissaries uncomfortable either. "A few soldiers should suffice and if something comes up we'll go from there."

Calis looked down at her armored feet at the king's statement,"Im sorry my liege, if I had seen the signs sooner...Davyn would still be making little toys for the village children, and you would have had more time to be prepared for this responsibility." She said while trying to hold in a stream of tears.
She then wiped her face of her tears and gave a salute to Laithe," My lord I would be honored if you require my presence at this meeting, say the word and I will be your shield. After all, Davyn will probably lock himself in his workshop for a few days anyway."

Teryis puts a consoling hand on the Lycan's shoulder. "We all could have seen signs, but let closeness blind us." He murmured sadly.
"I think Calis and myself would be a good escort for this meeting, what say you milord? There are guards a plenty if the prince decides he wants to go for a stroll."
Thinking about it, he remembered the report that had come in from the thieve's guild.
"Plus with the news about Inver that reached the city and her child that was here departing, Calis may be the only one in Draemir from Blue Sky at the moment now that I think of it!"

Laith touched Calis's arm briefly. "Calis....look at me. I blame no one for my sister's actions. We were all fooled I'm afraid. I still hold out hope that there is some reason for what she has done that is beyond her control, rather than ruthless violence for the sake of it. If there is a cause it can be looked into and perhaps she can be brought back to the person we all knew and loved. Until we know if a solution can be found we will do what we can to protect everyone."
He paused for a moment. "I can think of no better person to serve as Blue Sky's emissary. Also there are no two that I would rather have at my side to protect me than the two of you. I trust each of you with my family and my life. You have and continue to serve this kingdom well. I am honored to know both of you."
Laith frowned a bit at the mention of Inver. "It worries me that Inver is missing. Calis if there is any way that I can aid the pack in the search please let me know."
